The first time I heard that screech I was convinced Addie was suffering a terrible demise. I get small tastes of it (much like Bonnie's video) when a squirrel goes up a tree directly in front of her but haven't heard the full-fledged, ear-piercing and sanity-destroying version in months. Now I fear she knows where the hatch is and will be dedicated to tearing it open in the future.Īddie's Screech of Death has been limited since we've been living in an apartment and have left the wild menagerie of rodents back at Grandma and Grandpa's house. But vocally she has usually stayed quiet. ![]() Or at least go on a different day of the week.Īddie has always showed interest in the rodents at Petsmart, and could stand there for hours, with her tongue up against the glass, hoping to get a taste. I think I'm going to have to find a new Petsmart. It sounds like the dog is being tortured - a horrible, ear-piercing sound that seems to echo in your head for hours afterwards.Įither way, imagine that echoing through the aisles of Petsmart, as panicked rats try leaping out of their cage and one employee struggles to hold onto them while staring at me, trying to figure out what kind of a monster would own a dog capable of making such a noise. we complain a lot about obsessive cairn barking, but barking is a soothing lullaby compared to this. having acquired this peculiar talent, modern cairns make some novel uses of it, but as you can see with bonnie or with addie, the sight of the prey will bring it on big time. imagine a pack of cairns screeching you to death. i'm sure mice and rats simply keeled over paralyzed upon being skewered by the screech, or as brad suggests, just committed suicide on the spot, possibly by pounding themselves to death with the nearest rock. ![]() the only thing i can figure is that in their vermin patrols in the old days the screech had the double function of stunning the prey and letting the rest of the troop know the game was afoot and where. ![]() i've never heard any other breed make this noise, though it makes sense they would be able to. higher than a yelp and without some of the pathos, but with an ear-splitting edge. imagine that an octave higher, twenty times longer, with glass shattering and wall paint turning to powder. she is clearly talking in an agitated manner, and gets a result. Bonnie is definitely in the screech range, but in the video hers is polite and short.
